The objective of Tango's Equipment Management function is to reduce total lifecycle cost by extending equipment life between repairs.

Large industrial facilities have thousands of pieces of critical equipment.  Much of this equipment runs reliably for many years between overhauls and some equipment fails often and repeatedly. The key to reducing lifecycle cost is to understand equipment by:

* Time to Failure (MTBF)

* Cost of Failure

* Root Cause of Failure

With this information, we can pinpoint the most unreliable plant equipment, justify improving based on cost and eliminate its underlying root causes of failure to extend its life between overhauls.
  • * Electric Motors - The Forgotten Asset

Tango Helps You Collect and Manage Basic Reliability Information

In order understand your facility's reliability, the causes of unreliability, justify improvement initiatives and measure reliability improvement, three basic measures of reliability must be maintained:

1. Time to Failure: Often known as Mean Time Between Failure (MTBF), is the time equipment lasts between overhauls.  It is important to know MTBF for each piece of plant equipment AND each plant location.

2. Cost of Failure: This measurement helps prioritize reliability improvement projects and helps measure the results of improvement projects.

3. Root Cause of Failure: Often known as Root Cause of Failure Analysis (RCFA), extending equipment life and reliability improvement is the identification and systematic elimination of root causes of failure.

Equipment Lifecycle Reliability Management

Reliability Management Requires Systematic and standardized information management. The Lifecycle Management block diagram shows the elements which Tango™ addresses in managing equipment reliability

Equipment Identification, Design Information and

Equipment Search

Details Folders contain full articles of subject

Each piece of critical plant equipment in the reliability program must be permanently identified and its design parameters entered.  Basic name plate as well as detailed design information is required to aid in reliability improvement and equipment searches.

Stores Management

Stores management of critical, repairable equipment is significantly more complex than managing commodities in a stockroom.  Each individual item of critical equipment must be uniquely identified and tracked as it enters stores, is maintained in stores and removed from stores.  Adding to the complexity

of critical equipment stores is the fact that there are often multiple stores locations at the plant and offsite.

Track Installed Equipment Reliability

Managing installed equipment condition is discussed in the Condition Management Application Section

Managing physical inspections and trend data is discussed in the Rounds Logging application section.  Tracking equipment installation and removal is required for the calculation of equipment and location MTBF and the compilation of equipment and location histories.

As equipment moves between the lifecycle states and accumulates lifecycle data during its lifecycle state, Tango™ maintains this history for both the specific equipment and functional locations.  Two Tango™ reports, the Equipment History Report and the Location History Report provide interaction.

Equipment History Analysis and Program Metrics

Equipment management analysis provides information on the equipment problems and repairs in a time period, the root cause of failure, MTBF, and cost of failure.  This information is obtained from multiple sources as the equipment is installed, removed, repaired and re-installed.
